MeMe David Elya life thus far

My memories take me back nearly 45 years! Being born & raised in Macomb County, Michigan I have always been known as an "east sider".

Being the oldest of 5 children, I was raised in a working class Warren neighborhood. My Dad was a strong union man and my mother was a "stay at home" mom. Dad worked for the Detroit Free Press in circulation.

I enjoyed being the first in my family to loose a tooth, get chicken pox, join cub scouts, graduate school, and have a "girlfriend".

I self taught myself how to drive when I was 14 years old. Got busted driving myself on my morning paper route by my mom.  Hell to pay when I got home from school.

Met my bride at Burger King flipping Whoppers. Worked at Farmer Jack grocery store in high school making $7.50 an hour. Triple time on Sundays! Thought I wanted to be an electrician in high school. Enjoyed being the President of the broadcasting club in East Detroit High. Was the ticket taker when Bob Seger played at our high school. Our class (1976) was the second largest to graduate from East Detroit High, over 1500 classmates.

Went to RETS electronics school after high school to learn how to repair T.V's & radios.

Repaired auto radios for 3 years. I got paid to listen to the radio. Speaking of radio, I won a contest for the amateur hour as a DJ on the old WWWW.fm rock station. It was a blast playing the tunes I wanted for an hour, LIVE!

In the 80's I worked as an electronic repairman repairing cash registers for businesses across southeast Michigan. Learned the roads and how to be a businessman. Was told by my boss that I would be a good salesman? Went on to sell computer point of sale systems to Big Boy & Ram's Horns restaurants.

In 1991, I decided to change careers and sell real estate. I figured if I could sell a cash register, I could sell a house! Became a top producer at Century 21, later at RE/Max. In 2001 decided I wanted to become my own boss. Bought a real estate franchise. The rest is history.

ALJ Dismisses a Federal Trade Commission Complaint Against Michigan REALTORS MLS

Big NEWS! Congrats to REALCOMP II in this victory! This is a major victory for ALL REALTORS®!

ALJ Issues Initial Decision Dismissing Complaint Against Michigan Realtors' Group

Administrative Action Against Realcomp II, Ltd. Began in October 2006

In an initial decision filed on December 10, 2007 and announced December 13, 2007, Chief Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Stephen J. McGuire dismissed a Federal Trade Commission complaint issued last year against a realtors' group in southeast Michigan, ruling that "upon review of the totality of the evidence . . . it is determined that Complaint Counsel has not met its burden" of demonstrating that the policies of Realcomp II, Ltd. (Realcomp) have unreasonably restrained or substantially lessened competition in the relevant market. McGuire accordingly concluded that Complaint Counsel had not shown that the group's policies resulted in "actionable consumer harm" in violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act.

New surcharge on Michigan businesses

Just before 5pm, Saturday December 1, 2007, the Michigan House of Representatives struck the final blow to the 6% service tax.

Negotiations between the legislature and the Governor stretched on into the early morning hours of December 1st on House Bill 5408, the repeal of the job-killing service tax and the replacement of the revenue through a surcharge to the new Michigan Business Tax (MBT).

The Michigan Association of REALTORS® again kept vigil through the night in an effort to ensure any outcome spread the replacement revenue more fairly over a wide range of businesses. The first incarnation of the surcharge heavily favored manufacturers over Michigan's real estate brokerages and other small businesses. Although there was progress made during the late night negotiations toward a more equitable distribution, Bill Martin, C.E.O. of MAR summed up the final bill as "A bad tax that replaces another bad tax."

The MAR will continue to work with leadership in both chambers of the legislature on clean-up and clarification legislation to ensure that the MBT does not unduly burden real estate brokerages in this already troubled market.
